The Gift

Over time wondering what to give,

I looked far and wide

For that special gift for that special person

That one gift which would deliver the message

That special gift which would bring joy, completeness,

Fulfillment of desires

My search has been long and tiresome,

Taking me to many unforeseen places

Opening new possibilities at every turn

But always leading me to that one goal

To find that perfect gift

That gift which fits yet forms

And joyfully found is the one thing

That thing most wanted, mysteriously longed for

So hard to find, yet once found

Bringing joy to giver and receiver alike

That special gift from self

Not separate from but part of us both

Wrapping the gift with my thoughts and prayer

Becoming truly pleasing to present

Revealing its secret joy to sender and receiver

Then with wrappings removed releasing all disguise and unreality

The revealed perfection of the gift

Then fully known

This gift both given and received, brings joy to both

For its charity and its discovery

The gift, a wish fulfilled, giver and given alike

Anticipation ended, bringing fulfillment

Of the promise, of all hope and trust

To be savored and treasured, to be used and shared

Lord I bring you my life as a humble gift,

Once searched for, now found, unwrapped, revealed

And open to Your will

In thanks for being given, I give

In joy for being loved, I love

In fulfillment of Your will, I live
