Thank You Lord

As a new day dawns,

And I take my first waking breath of cool fresh air

I know I am in Your hands Lord,

And I give You thanks

As I close my eyes for a moment in all my broken-ness and imperfection

I can see and feel that through it all I am Your creation

I know You love me Lord and know me by name,

And I give You thanks

As I begin to think of all I have to say and do today

I pause for a moment realizing its insignificance

For my life itself is a wondrous gift to use

And I give You thanks

Standing, walking, functioning through the day

I am amazed at the gifts You give to us

For I am, and can do nothing without You

And I give You thanks

In the company of family, friends and neighbors

I look left and right and see Your presence

For You made us all in Your likeness of love

And I give You thanks

In a hurry to do, and to go, and to say,

I wonder how any of this brings me closer

For these are things of man not of God

May I leave the insignificant

May I thank You with all my heart

And move thus closer to You

You gave us life and love throughout the ages

And when we were lost You came

And became one of us, to lead us home

My thanks are so inadequate, so insufficient

Yet I offer all I have, given to me by You

In thanksgiving and praise

For even in my deepest sorrow and darkest hour

I know You are there for me

Even when I look away and wander from truth

You call me home and wait for me

In this I find comfort

In this is love

And I thank You Lord
