Your Pen and Ink

Written in the book of my life Lord

I find pages where I’ve wandered far

Looking for things of this world

Not caring or looking at Your face

Nor seeing the work of Your grace

Writing pages new, Lord fill me

Be as my ink, and I Your pen

Scribing words of Your great works

Describing my deepest love for You

In the words I write, in the things I do

Written in the book of my life Lord

I see chapters spent on journey afar

Searching, looking between the lines

Roaming aimlessly, without purpose, alone

Seeking reason and wholeness and home

As I start a new chapter this Lent

Guide my hand to write with new sight

Of deeds and needs outside myself

Love flowing forth from me, Your pen

Writing prayers of resolve to start again

Your grace, the ink in me, Your pen

Fills me, flowing forth now upon life’s tablet

Marking where I am and where I’ve been

May the words I write in this new chapter so live

And move the reader to love and to give

Help me write well my life’s next pages

Through my hand may I write Your love forth

In my works and my words so be scribed

Carefully written for all to see this Lent

Help me write forth fully Your grace so sent

May I write of Your love, I Your pen

As You, my ink, flow forth from my hand

Onto the coming new pages of my life

To praise You and speak of change

Written this Lent humbly of Your name
