With You Always
As cried out by the prophets
From times of old
The promise given man
His presence with us foretold
Not earned or deserved
In any earthly way
His Holy presence always and ever
Freely given, forever to stay
His promise still sustained
As we sinned and turned away
Fearing He’d forgotten us
Longing for His presence to stay
Over ancient time as the Word
Present for man, in covenant call
Providing, loving, forgiving always
Patiently waiting still for us all
Then covenant promise happened
Fulfilling all in one great act
God to man, as man He became
Divinely present in truth and fact
For a very short while
Here with us in person this Jesus
Present as man and divine
Seemingly then too soon to leave us
But no; He remains
As clearly so promised
Not leaving us ever, with us forever
The Word here among us
When simple bread and wine are transformed
Into manna and living water
Wholly His Body, Blood, Soul, Divinity
Remaining with us forever
His own words fulfilling
At that Last Supper saying
I’ll be with You
always
Until the end of time
