Desert Prayer

I have entered the desert,

Seeking for, seeking from, and to

Alone, my life aside me to seek You

And my heart to place in Your hand

Walking deeper and slowly away

Into this parched land of preparation

Looking for peace and solace

Gaining solitude and dryness

I am parched, seeking refreshment

Feeling empty but near now

Closer, to my start than finish

The desert weakens but builds me

Heading toward the hills I gain as I lose

Distant waves rise as I reach toward

A pool of life glimmers in vision ahead

My slow pace now quickens

Toward my cure, my refreshment

Yet out of reach, there too far it seems

Yet with no direction left I go on

Heading through pain to passion

Longing for home, for Him

My feet burn on His lonely path

Not soothed by cool grass or palm

But healing now as I draw near

For:

In my solitude I am accompanied

In my wandering, direction

In my thirst, refreshment

In the sear of life’s burning, cool breeze

In the distance I find nearness

Your distant hills, now in sight

In this desert time, lead me

In this desert barren, find me

On my desert journey, heal me

In this desert loneliness, keep me

On my desert journey, refresh me,

In this desert place, cool me

In my desert emptiness, fill me
