In the Desert

In desert times in my life, when all is barren and I am alone

I stop to listen to the roar of silence, and can hear the distant voice of God.

With nothing blocking my view except the blowing sands of temptation I wander, searching, longing for answers, and find direction in the word of God.

In the dryness and dust of my life’s trials, when weakly, I strain to go on, I am refreshed by the well-spring of God’s all renewing grace.

As I bear the relentless heat of life’s desert I stand parched and barely able to breathe; but I am soothed by the cool breeze

of the Holy Spirit’s many gifts.

In the unbearable, blinding glare, when life’s bright reflections distract my view, I am thankfully shaded by the full branches

of the olive tree of God’s love.

In loneliness and desolation, when I feel so alone and exposed;

it is then I find comfort, and am held gently in the palm of our Father’s hand.

For it is in the desert times of my life, when I find myself alone with Him; He who knew me before I was born, the One who guides me to green pastures.

From the desert times of my life He leads me to the bank of His gentle stream, where I cool my feet in the flowing water

of His great love and deep care for me.
