Stones of God
I picked up a stone today
And marveled at its beauty, as it was
Polished to a smooth finish
Holding it gently in the palm of my hand
There came a comfort to my heart
A peace in learning, in knowing
As I held His beautiful work
That it too, as I, am part of His plan
His will for all things
Looking further I found another
This one flat, with grooves worn deep
Cutting deeply into its surface
Carved by forces planned for this work
But not weakening its strength
As I too have been carved
Even strengthened
By the grooves and furrows of lifeÕs experiences
He has given me
The third stone I picked up was rough
Miss-shapen, and layered
Clearly formed by pressure, heat, wear
Broken and sharp edged
Yet still hardened and useful
As I too have been formed
By the pressures, heat, of stress of life
And have broken and developed edges
Yet still remain of great use and purpose in His plan
Lord I pray that as even the simple stones of this earth
Which we walk on and use for our purposes
Provided to us in many shapes and forms
Are created in Your time by Your hand
As they are, may I too be shaped and formed by You
To serve Your divine purpose
