IN THE DARK AND DIN
In the dim transition between day and night
Comes a feeling, a sense of ending, of never
Yet in the ensuing darkness and emptiness
Even the smallest light shines brighter
And illuminates a space much larger
Burning a hole in the blanket of darkness
Broader than it would during the bright of day
In the lowering evening volume of daily life
At the end of another bustling day
A day of enduring the din of man and machine
Even the peal of a Robin calling its young
Pierces the creeping quietude like a sweet edge
Seeming to be the sole sound in my ears
For even a moment, but clearer than in daylight
Likewise in the transition times of my life
When all seems subjugated to the darkness of doubt
And the path seems to be a silhouette or shadow
There is a beacon cutting through the thick of doubt
Leading the way, lighting the path to right
The flame burning brightly in the darkness
The light of Your grace
And so too in the noise of daily distraction
Pulling me left and right away from center
Creating a ringing of confusion within
Disabling my ability to really hear at all
There comes a voice of truth heard clearly
A voice which alone creates comfort and peace
A holy RUAH, a breath of God, bringing life
