In My Smallness

Lifting my head I feel pulled upward

As small dots of light from distant stars reach my eyes

The immense breadth and depth of this moment in time engulfs me

This small view, merely a hint of the majesty of God, the creator of all

In the light of all creation my shadow is indeed very distant and small

But the loving eyes of God see me so closely and clearly

Because I am very dear to Him

So significant that He would have sent His only Son to die for me alone

As His special creation

And when the last of starlight is extinguished by seeping light

At the very edge of night and morning

When first light begins its subtle glow in the East

The sky is brightened by flickering ochre flames, now transforming all

A fluid palette of gleaming waves slowly changes from shades of grey

To a rainbow of color in slow migration toward the west

As an earthly witness I am filled with awe with my smallness in all this

Yet this light transforming the darkness now reminds me

Of Who He is and who He wants me to be today

In my smallness help me to understand Your wonder

Help me to grasp how You would care so much for me

One who is so small and vulnerable

Yet made in Your image

And may Your incredible love for everything that is me

Transform me that I may transform life and lives
