A Rosary in Dad’s Memory

I pray a decade in thanks:

That our dad is today the way he always wanted to be

So long so apart, but a moment, a dream, this frail life begins and it ends

Now perfect today, with no age or decay or blemish to get in the way

With mom now at home where once they began

With relatives and friends they now stay.

I pray a decade in appreciation:

I pray thanks now today for a life here he once had

On this earth, seemed so short a time span

What a gift his time was, blessed with life full of love

Now he’s gone yet still here, in our lives

From the moment in time it began and it’s span

Forever we treasure him now.

I pray a decade in pride:

For a life so well lived in love and in prayer

To look back at and see with our heart

In bold footsteps he did what was right and was fair

He walked the right path from the start.

I pray a decade in love

We need to love well all the while we are here

Like him, in what we say and we do

How well that we love all those who are dear

Our neighbor as ourselves we love too.

I pray a decade to ask:

For real peace in our lives

And an end to all hopelessness and fear

For good health in our time, for yours and for mine

For the while we still live life down here.

I pray in closing:

Mother Mary by your rosary I seek and I pray

As dad taught us to do from the start

Take my prayer to your Son as I say it today

Hold me near as our dad to your heart

Help me know all is well both down here and up there

Till I see him again one fine day.
