I saw Jesus today
In the wondrous miracle of His creation
Against the backdrop of a deep blue spring sky
Accented by the greening grass fields
Dotted by running and laughing children
I saw Jesus today
In the elderly man struggling to rise from his chair
Shaking and needing my arm to help him
Standing yet one more time to greet his wife
And running his wrinkled hand through her hair
I saw Jesus today
In the message scrawled on a beggar’s sign
Held out to all passers by
Asking for help in any way
Asking me to see Him, and not be blind
I saw Jesus today
In the gentle smile on a mother’s face
As she held her child’s hand
While wiping away her tears
With a soft hankie from her carry case
Do others see Jesus today?
As enter their lives and join in their time
In my eyes and hands and heart
In the honest reflection on my face
In the evident purity of my mind?
Do others find Jesus today?
In the way I speak with truth and grace
In the gentleness of my voice
In the depth of my patience and forgiveness
As I welcome the stranger
To come and be with me in this place?
