In the Depth
The bitter winds of a Midwest
winter storm
Cut through my overcoat to chill
my skin
As I leave the safety and the warm
And lean forward into the wind
Turning my collar to the blowing
chill
Quickly heading toward the shelter
And the prospect of warmth within
IÕve studied the risks involved as
I should
And firmly set my goal on the
ultimate destination
IÕve prepared for the journey the
best way I could
And insulated myself against the
danger
IÕve set out bravely into elements
out of my control
Trusting in my understanding of
the risk
Hoping that I did all I could to
prepare
So too the bitter winds of
temptation
Cut through my senses from all
directions
As I venture from my baptism into
the world
And find myself resisting evil at
every turn
Trying to divert my senses from
its powerful pull
Looking for some shelter from its
onslaught
Seeking the comfort of real
meaning and truth
IÕve been prepared by my faith
models
Who have shown me the right path
through life
Who guided me with example, love and
prayer
So I could set out into the world
but be not of it
Fully trusting in my knowledge of
the dangers and of my faith
Praying that He always be with me
at all times
Jesus be with me to:
Help me during the depth of
temptation
Guide me:
Through the depth of earthly
distraction
Show me:
The depth of real truth and life
Strengthen me:
In the depth of my fears
Give me hope:
In the depth of my despair
Save me:
From the depth of my doubts
Show me:
The full depth of Your love
