Summer Rain
In a searing summer afternoon
The surrounding heat builds to a crescendo
Signaling quietly that change is on the way
As dark clouds begin to gather in the west
Their billows turning from white to gray
Soon the heat bound stillness breaks
As slowly a fresh cool breeze arises
Awakening, soothing skin and turning leaf
Softening the crackling dryness
Advance notice of pending relief
A distant roar livens into a nearby crack
As streaks of fire are written across the sky
By a hand unseen, connecting all
A warning to seek shelter from harm
To find a safe place to hear its call
Steam arises from the walkway
As droplets of refreshment gently touch
With a building patter of rhythmic sound
Soothing the now curled and cooling leaves
Suddenly letting their wash fall to the ground
Beginning as soft well spaced droplets
Relief from the summer heat soon comes in force
Falling from on high, saving from drought
Forming pools of watery life giving grace
Running over into rivulets slowly reaching out
As this soothing summer gift of life builds
My imperfect tree haven is no longer shelter
Leaving my fears, beginning to walk again
I set out with trust as the rain envelopes me
Assuring me that I am part of His plan
Help me leave the imperfect shelter of my fear
And set out bravely, trusting Your plan
Engulfed by the steady rain of Your grace
Filling all, encompassing all, relieving all
From the dryness of doubt in this life place
