Seasons From Within
Change has crept up and surprised the unprepared
With its feel and sound and look
Surprising even the hopeful with its suddenness
From warm too cool, from green to vibrantly colored,
With waves of wind washing up on leafy shores
Rocking giant oak branches like wavy willow
Standing as giant rocking celebrants of the season
From the soft hues of summer to the stark and the sharp
Cool shade in shadows yields to warmth found in
shelter
This transition reverses my thoughts
Turning them inward, away from the outside
To things of warmth, of consolation, of inside
And while the outer feel gets more severe
My inner spirit soars in anticipation
For a time of winter preparation comes
So too my heart
Affected by the seasons of my daily life
Is in transition; is in a time of change
As I move from comfort to risk
From the warmth and security of me
To the cold of being exposed as who I am
From the colorful veneer of my outer self
To the softer hues of inner character
Calling me to turn this gentle inside, outward
And in that realization I am taught
Who I really need and am created to be
In all seasons of my life
With GodŐs grace given to and thru myself to
others
Called to transform my life to the goodness truly called
forth
From within
