Mom’s Special Day

It’s been a long while Mom

Since I’ve seen your sweet smile

Since I’ve heard your soft voice

Seen you bounce in the aisle.

Yet I hear you so clearly

Now, just as back then

And I smile when I think

Of those times that have been.

With closed eyes I still feel

Your hugs just so tight

Seeing now as I saw then

Your eyes sparkle so bright.

Your giggle so sweet

Over things big and small

A joy for things simple

No sadness at all.

As I think of the food

And the fun and the sound

Of our family and friends

When we gathered around.

You cooked and prepared

So often with love

We asked how and just when

And from where and … wow!

I untied your apron

You giggled, I hid,

Who did that? You chuckled

But you knew that I did

You live in me now

I can tell when I feel

The love of my family

A love, oh so real.

When together, you’re there

And alone just the same

I always will treasure

Your love, it remains.

I ‘ve missed you, the while

Your voice and your way

As I think of your birthday

Here again May

But this time it’s so special

Your birthday to me

This year you’re with Dad

You both longed so to be.

It’s the first of forever

In heaven, your day

Each year now together

And I just heard Dad say…

No cooking today dear

If I remember it right

It’s "Hook, Line and Sinker"

Like always tonight.
