In Each Breath A Prayer
After I have exhaled fully
A short moment of suspense
A thin slice of time passes
Between one breath and the next
A time of suspenseful pause
About which I never think
A time unconsciously happening
Solely because of His will
I depend on Him totally
To restart my life’s process
Without thinking or worry
Placing my next breath in His hands
In total trust, in a special way
A thousand times per day
I exhale, letting it all go
Placing myself again in His hands
Purging the old, emptying
Making space for the new, the fresh
Taking it in as He provides it
Filling the emptiness within with the
new
Newness passing throughout my very
self
Bringing life to all within
Over and over, new breath
Without thinking as I should do
Of His divine providence for me
Of His unrelenting presence
Drawn from the air all around me
Like His grace, provided unendingly
To be breathed in at no cost
From the bounty of His love
My each breath I take
From Your bountiful grace
Fill me with Your
love, Your life
And with every breath
May my life be a prayer
In grateful love I treasure
The spark of life You
have given me
You ask me only to keep it alive,
And to spread it with every breath
