In Time
The gift of time is given
By one who needs it not
Sometimes short,
sometimes long
Measured by us to use
and invest
To often wasted and
lost
Not ours to have but
a special gift
Suddenly here and too
soon gone
Measured in seconds,
minutes, hours
Merely tastes of
eternity
Yet saved closely and
measured
With both serious
mind, and lack of care
Invested, spent and
diddled away
Precious gift of time given
freely
Assumed, yet to be
truly treasured
Short when looked
back upon in regret
Long when looked
ahead in hope
Yet amply supplied to
each sufficient
Always coming, yet
still passing by
Past but current as
the moment
Hard to hold, not to
own, not ours
But solely from His
Munificence
Used poorly, clouding
the real
Used well as intended
and given
Rewarding with clear
vision back and forth
A gift to be savored and used well while here
To help, to frame our
life’s work
To not keep but use
well as planned
For in eternity time
is no more
A model life, 33
earthly years of love
Giving us His human all
until the end
In three hours His
very life He’d spend
Reopening time for us
to live
To join Him when our time
is come
When none will matter
at eternity’s door
The gift of time to
us He did send
