Filled with tragedy and loss

We seem to count and measure it

And spend time assessing its cost

The papers, the TV, the radio recount

How the loss occurred and was seen

By whom and to whom it all came to be

What was, and what might have been

Yet good things also happened;

People cared for each other today

In things done and said to each other

Spreading God’s grace along the way

Looking away from our mirrors

Deeply through eyes of love, another way

To look at life, to share the joy

A chance to live as we would pray

When we look with our heart’s eye

We find goodness in the small

In simple and the quiet things in life

In the many ways that we hear God’s call

So spread the good news

Christ has come to save us from sin

To take away the pain, to help us to live

Over darkness always His love will win

Help me to look beyond the sad

To Your goodness and grace

To hold on to life’s little blessings

And be one to others in this place
