On Life’s Shore

I stand where the ocean meets it’s shore

On the edge of great things

Coming and going with a rhythm familiar but changing

Soothing yet awakening in me

An expectation, a longing

I stare longingly at the horizon

A perfect line, a smooth result from where I look

Never close, never reachable, un-definable

Yet between here and there

So many waves of challenge

Dare I enter, dare I cross the edge into the waves

How far do I challenge it?

Do I push forward

Deeper into this commitment of life

Trust, do I, in its power and soothing caress to carry me?

Yet I must, I know now, go into the deep

Toward the oncoming force, push on

To answer the call, to feel its pull

To reach for all goodness,

No longer watching but crossing the edge

The rising and falling breaks into sound

Relentlessly cresting

With new highs and new depths

Reaching, breaking, changing all the while

Always meeting shore, but never in the same place

My feet in sand, firm for a short while, yet soon again

As life’s waves erode my base,

I sink softly and struggle for balance

Moving now to a higher ground, I brace

Relentless its waves lap and scrub them clean

I stand where my life meets this world

On the edge

With eyes firmly fixed on Truth

May waves and swells not pull me away

As I boldly enter it trusting solely in You
