But Not Of It

Caught up a self created whirlwind world
I struggle to balance
The demands of work and family,
Relationships and success
On the scale of faith and love
 
The unsettled state of that which man has created
Pervades my every thought moment
Concern and distraction keeping all out of focus
Trapping me into a state of uneasiness
 
So that, like a cloud carried on the wind
I constantly move and change shape
When worldly pulls and pressures
Threaten to morph me into an unclear form
Preventing me from showing my authentic image
Obscuring my heart, my true self
 
Help me Jesus to be:
“In this world but not of it”
To be able to cope with all
That distracts me from You
To live within it as Your child
Focused without distraction
On the radiance of Your love
Reflecting the image of Your love as Your creation
Being not as I myself, nor as the world wants
But as You want me to be
For it is:
“Not I that live but You that live within me”
