Called

From ages old

We are called

To this special period

Set aside

A time of preparation

A time of purification

Hours and days given over

To re-center ourselves

A time for a deep change of heart

To prepare for the miracle

We are called

To open up that which is sadly closed

To close up that which shouldn’t be open

To give up that which pulls us away

To give away that which we do not need

That which is not ours but has been freely given

We are called

To receive that which is freely offered

To forgive knowing that we are forgiven

To love knowing that we are loved

To welcome those who are lost

Lord help me in this Lenten time

To prepare well

To sacrifice what I consider mine

And empty myself of all that falsely fills

To become an empty vessel

Longing to be filled with Your love.
