And He Smiled

I awoke this morning and said to myself

I will make today a really good one

I worked hard yesterday to make it happen

And He Smiled

On the way to work I leaned back and thought

I know a better way to go around this traffic

Because I have planned and prepared for this

And He smiled

At the office I pulled up my calendar

Checked my schedule for the day

To be sure all was as I planned

And He smiled

As the day went on I got things done

And made progress on all I worked on

Completing all my scheduled goals

And He smiled

On the way home I thought about the night

And what was on the agenda for that evening

All the nice things I looked forward to

And He smiled

As I turned a corner on a lonely street I saw it

Right in front of me, an accident

Without thinking what I planned to do, I ran to help

And He smiled

I just held the hand of a crying mother

Who had just seen her child hurt

She held her little one close, and I comforted her

And He smiled

I called and the paramedics came in time

She just looked at me saying over and over: thank you

If you hadn’t stopped with your phone and called...

And He smiled

Later, driving home shaken but feeling good

Considering my plans for that day

I would never have imagined what had happened
