Close Encounters

I’ve had what I would consider
The most marvelous close encounter
A presence of inconceivable proportion
One I could never fully have prepared for
An intersection with the Divine
A close encounter with the infinite
Yet present within the finite of this life
 
Right here in this humble chapel
I kneel in wonder and amazement
As I, such an unworthy and imperfect creature
Find myself within just feet of perfection itself
God, Jesus, the Lord Himself, the ultimate Truth
The Word Himself, really, substantially, physically here
As e promised usHe
He promised us Himself, that He would be
 
Now in this place, on my knees I look to You
For healing, for peace, for forgiveness, for strength
I feel closer than I’ve ever been in Your presence
And long for full communion
I have invited You into my heart
And You have come as You promised
Physically revealed in sacramental presence
 
I am changed by being here in this place
In the intimate presence of He who comes
Hinting to me ever so slightly
With a mere glimpse of Your infinite presence
By this earthly close encounter with You
