His Peace Strengthens

In times of my greatest stress
Troubles seem like steep mountains
Difficult and insurmountable
And the rugged highway I must travel
Passes through new zones of risk and trouble
I am straining to be vigilant, yet tired and weakening
I find no rest, and I weary of seeking

And in this my hour of earthly test
In prayer as I offer it as my cross
I can hear You gently say
“My peace I leave you
My peace I give you”
Do what you can with me at your side
Your efforts will not be your loss

At each narrow pass and steepening cliff
Of earthly diversion from Your holy plan
My strength is tested again and again
But with You I am strong, I can resist
Because in Your Eucharistic gift
Received in faith I am strengthened
By Your body and your Blood
To know true safety in the palm of Your hand

I’ll run the good race, fight the good fight
Travel fearlessly to dizzying height
I’ll follow Your will
And with Your help climb every hill
To live in Your heavenly light
